So once a month we read all of it. The cities, the county, three school systems, the libraries, the ag facility, the elections office. We pull out what actually changes your week, and put it on one page with a link back to where it came from.
This is the founding issue, and it is as much yours as ours. Tell us what we missed and we will go check it.

This month at a glance
- Fall break lands on different weeks depending on your school. Jefferson City and Commerce City are out Oct 5–9. Jackson County students are out Oct 8, 9, 12 and 13. If you have children in two systems, check both before you book anything.
- Voting starts earlier than most people expect. Early voting for the November 3 election runs Oct 13–30 at 441 Gordon Street in Jefferson, and the Commerce and Braselton satellite sites only open Oct 26–30. Three precincts also moved their Election Day polling place this year — easier to check now than to find out on the day.
- October shows up downtown. Scarecrows go up along Jefferson's sidewalks by Oct 3 and anyone can vote for a favorite through Nov 2. Markets, a circus, fall festivals and a Halloween morning 5K fill in the rest of the month.
- Another large warehouse has been filed. 1.05 million square feet on Academy Church Road in Jefferson, roughly 475 jobs. Its rezoning goes before the Jefferson-Talmo Planning Commission on Oct 5 at 6 p.m.

Scarecrows stand along downtown sidewalks and flowerbeds all month. Anyone can vote for a favorite; winners are announced November 3.

Two warehouse buildings, $90 million at build-out, completion estimated 2028. A city rezoning is still required.
That rezoning is on the Jefferson-Talmo Planning Commission agenda for Oct 5, 6 p.m., Jefferson Station Community Room, 1000 Washington Street: 144.135 acres on Academy Church Road, R-2 to light industrial, for warehouses. City staff recommend approval once the regional impact review is complete, or postponement if that report is not ready by the hearing.

The chamber says it would have paid about $1 million a year in local property taxes. The site now generates $28,900.
For the record: city officials said the widely shared 6-million-gallons-a-day water figure was wrong — the filing should have read per month — and that the project was a metal manufacturing plant, not a data center.

Voting — the November 3 general and special elections
- Voter registration deadline: Oct 5.
- Advance in-person voting at the Jackson County Election Center, 441 Gordon Street, Jefferson: Tue–Sat Oct 13–17, Mon–Sat Oct 19–24, and Mon–Fri Oct 26–30, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. each day. No Sunday voting.
- Satellite sites, Oct 26–30 only, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.: Commerce Administrative Complex (Civic Center), 110 State Street, and Braselton Civic Center, 27 E Lake Drive. No drop boxes at the satellites.
- Absentee ballot applications are accepted through Friday Oct 23.
- The absentee drop box is inside the Election Center, open only during early-voting hours, and closes Oct 30 at 5 p.m.
- All early voting ends Oct 30 at 5 p.m.
Three polling places moved this year
North Jackson precinct now votes at the Commerce Administration Complex, 110 State Street. West Jackson precinct now votes at the Braselton Civic Center, 27 E Lake Drive.
